Shantala Kaikini

Shantala Kaikini is a multidisciplinary artist, art historian, and graphic designer whose work bridges fine art, creative wellness, and visual storytelling. As the founder of ArtMantra LLC and creator of Chaiscape™—a series of screen-free art workshops and mindful creative experiences—she brings a unique blend of cultural depth, artistic mastery, and educational insight into every space she touches.

Her artistic practice is rooted in portraiture, miniature painting, and mixed media, with a strong emphasis on Indian miniature art techniques, traditional materials, and intricate detail. Inspired by her cultural heritage, Shantala’s work reflects both precision and storytelling, offering a contemporary interpretation of time-honored artistic traditions.

Shantala began her career in the advertising industry, building a strong foundation in graphic design and visual communication. She later transitioned into art education, where she developed an integrative teaching approach that blends art history, creative practice, and interdisciplinary learning. Through her hands-on art workshops and community art programs, she creates experiences that are accessible to both beginners and seasoned creatives, fostering curiosity, confidence, and meaningful connection.

Through ArtMantra LLC, founded in 2011, Shantala has expanded her vision into offerings that support both personal and community growth. Chaiscape™—her signature creative wellness workshop series—invites participants to unplug, slow down, and engage in stress-relief art experiences designed to support mental well-being. In addition, her dedicated classes in Indian and folk art provide immersive, technique-focused learning that honors and preserves these rich traditions.

Her work extends beyond the studio into community-building initiatives. Shantala actively curates exhibitions, including the recent “Paper Trails: Stories That Connect Us,” a community art exhibition that brought together artists of all ages to explore storytelling through paper as both medium and metaphor.

She holds a B.F.A. in Graphic Design and an M.F.A. in Art History from CIAS, Bangalore University, and is a recipient of grants from the Ridgewood Arts Foundation and the Arts Council of Glen Rock. An active member of the Bergen County arts community, she is involved with organizations such as Creative Bergen, the Fair Lawn Arts Council, and the Ridgewood Arts Council—supporting the growth of local art programs, creative workshops, and cultural initiatives.

Through her work, Shantala Kaikini continues to create spaces where art, mindfulness, and community intersect—inviting people of all backgrounds to experience creativity not as a skill, but as a pathway to connection, clarity, and well-being.
